Claudia Lynn Whited

August 8, 1952November 6, 2019

Claudia Whited, 67, returned to the Lord on November 6th. She bravely fought cancer for 3 years, she was a beautiful warrior in both life and death.

Claudia is survived by her husband Jim; daughter Leslie and her husband Mark with their children Hana, Ty, Kayla, Wes and Kirra; son Robert and his wife Jonelle with their children Samantha, Ryan, Brandon and Nathan; Jim's daughter Denise and her husband Aaren; Jim's son Matthew; Claudia's brother Scott and his wife Kathy; niece Elizabeth and her husband Joel with their children Clive and Lucia; and many friends close enough to be family.

Claudia was born August 8th, 1952 to Doris and Leon Goff. She was raised in Southern California and attended El Dorado High School. She went on to Cal State Fullerton where she earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Biology. Claudia raised her family in Orange County and developed a deep love for running.

Claudia married her husband Jim 20 years ago and they spent all their free time together. They developed a passion for the outdoors; running and biking countless miles in Chino Hills State Park, backpacking sections of the Appalachian Trail, touring the western states on their motorcycle, visiting National Parks and escaping to the Hood River every chance they had.

She passionately worked as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at UCI Medical Center for more than 30 years, where she advocated for patients and coworkers.

Claudia ran 23 miles the day before she was diagnosed with lung cancer and fought her diagnosis fiercely. She even ran a 10K trail running race about one year after being diagnosed. Through her cancer journey she and Jim gave their lives to the Lord and dedicated themselves to Christ.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

I will always remember Claudia for being a fair, positive, considerate, and a great leader. Working under her is also fun. She encouraged us to work independently, reward successful job completion and team effort and above all she was a good friend. We will miss you.

Our sincere condolences to your family. May cherished memories of special times bring you comfort in your sorrow and peaceful solace to your heart.

God Bless.

My family always enjoys the spring hiking and after-parties you organize almost every year. We love your wilderness backyard and how you always tell everybody how you remember me running after Bryan, my 2-year-old son, as I chase him with my high heels on up and down the stairs in your garden.
You are an inspiration to all of us in the UCI Hematology department, more than you ever know. We will miss you.

I will always remember the work we did together and your passion for native plant gardening.
May your memory be eternal. Our sympathy to your family.

Mom, I love you and I miss you! You were always there to love and support me, thank you for making me and the world a better place. You saw the good in people so that they could see the good in themselves; beautiful on the inside and out! I'm very proud of you!
