

Cessna, David George, 80 years young, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Saturday, July 8, 2017. David, or George as he was known by family and friends in Pennsylvania, was born on May 9, 1937 to Edward C. Cessna and Clara E. Love. David joined the Army in October 1955. His last day as a Private 1st class was 3 years later in October 1958. On January 23, 1960 he married Mary Jane Lauer. Several years later he moved Mary Jane and their first 3 children to California. Together they lived life with its ups and downs and raised a family for 44 years. David was a hard-working man, teaching his children the importance of doing a good job and saving for the future. In his free time he enjoyed “date night” with Mary Jane or an impromptu dance in the living room to 50’s and 60’s classics, picnics and camping with his family and friends, gardening, baking, swimming and lawn bowling. David is predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Jane (Lauer) Cessna January 2004; brother, Edward Cessna June 2005 and granddaughter, Catherine Cessna February 2000. He is survived by brother - Donald Cessna, sisters - Candace (Westley) Varner, Ruth Westley, and Alicia (Westley) Burk, children - Tina Cessna-Isaacs, David Cessna Jr, Alan Cessna (Esther Cessna), Robert Cessna (Triny Cessna), Kim Cessna, John Cessna (Catalina Cessna) and Stephen Cessna, 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as cousin, Bill Greiner and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. A private Catholic family service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Fairhaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a donation in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society and/or Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
