She leaves behind her 2 daughters, Barbara Howard and Carol Weiss; her grandchildren, Mathew Weiss, Melinda Weiss, Jenelle Henry (Dan), Brian Howard (Kristi); her 5 great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Luke & Ethan Henry and Owen & Benjamin Howard. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Charles P Downer (Chuck) and her brother Harvey Miller (Bing). Dorothy (Dot) was born in Ohio on February 10th, 1929, to Harvey J Miller and Esther Miller. She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she met and married her high school sweetheart. Chuck and Dot were married for 66 years. They moved to Anaheim, California in 1959 where they lived in their home on Tedmar Avenue until 2016. Dot moved to Walnut Village in Anaheim that July and enjoyed many happy days there with wonderful friends and staff.
Dot devoted her life to her family, her home, and her friends. She was a remarkable homemaker, wife, mother and friend. Dot worked for the Anaheim Convention Bureau in her later years, and she loved her ‘Red Coat’ friends there. She and Chuck were members of the Shirts and Skirts Square Dancing Club for 40 years. She was still dancing at her 90th birthday party! Chuck was the love of her life and they enjoyed dancing, traveling and time with family in their retirement years. She adored her daughters and grandchildren and has always been very involved in their lives, supporting and encouraging them. Her great-grandchildren called her ‘Grandma Dot’ and she cherished every moment with them.
There will be a memorial service held for Dot on May 8, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Walnut Village Chapel. 891 S Walnut St. Anaheim 92802.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a charitable donation in Dot’s name to the National Search Dog Foundation: https://www.searchdogfoundation.org/get-involved/ or the Front Porch Community Foundation https://frontporch.net/give/
