Erik Sean McCully passed away peacefully at his home on September 21, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on February 18, 1955, in Lancaster, California. In 1967, he and his family moved to Fresno when his father, Clyde C. McCully, became President of Fresno City College.
Erik graduated from Bullard High School in 1973, attended Fresno City College, and earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and an MBA from California State University, Fresno. After graduating from Fresno State, he relocated to Southern California, where he built a successful career in transportation, logistics, and distribution.
One of Erik’s greatest loves was baseball. He spent years coaching his children, creating memories that went far beyond wins and losses. He loved the game, and sharing that love with his children made it even more meaningful.
In 2016, Erik met Deborah, and they were married in 2018 at Disneyland. Deborah loved Disney, and because he loved her, Erik embraced the adventure. It was one of the many ways he showed his love throughout their life together. He did countless things simply because they mattered to her, and those quiet acts of love became some of the memories she will treasure most.
Erik lived his life on his own terms. He was unapologetically himself, and those who knew and loved him will remember his independence, his sense of humor, and his determination to approach life his own way. He loved the outdoors, baseball, a glass of Jameson, and simply enjoying life. But those closest to him also knew the loving man beneath that independent spirit: a father who spent years coaching his children, a grandfather whose face would light up for his grandchildren, and a husband who willingly stepped into worlds that weren’t naturally his, simply because they made the women he loved happy. He also loved the Lord, and his faith was an important part of his life.
Alzheimer’s disease changed the final chapter of Erik’s life, but it does not define his story. His story lives on in the people he loved, the children he raised, the grandchildren who brought him joy, the woman who walked beside him, his love for the Lord, and the countless memories that remain.
Erik is survived by his wife, Deborah; his sons, Cole McCully and Garrett McCully; his daughter, Caitlin (Shawn) Gage; his stepdaughters, Ashlyn (Hunter) Hoffman and Courtney (Logan) Martin; his stepson, Brandon (Julia) Hoffman; his grandchildren, Olivia and Levi; his brother, Brian (Marty) McCully; his sister, Amanda Capin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Betty Jo McCully; his younger brother, Kevin McCully; and his brother-in-law, Philip Capin.
Erik was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed. Though his time here has ended, the love he gave and the memories he created will continue in the lives of those fortunate enough to call him husband, Dad, Ampa, brother, uncle, and friend.
A Graveside Service will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Park, 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705, US, on October 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
