Legacy, Jean-Marie (Powell), proud matriarch, loyal friend, and determined dancer entered eternal life on June 2, 2017. Born in Frederic, WI and raised in Seattle, Jean-Marie headed to Santa Ana in her early 20’s where she met her husband, Gary Kyle Legacy, and raised their children. After serving for over 25 years at the County of Orange and selflessly caring for Gary, she moved to Laguna Niguel to be near her family. Jean-Marie’s retirement life was active: she volunteered for the Laguna Niguel Police Auxiliary Citizen Team, created dozens of quilts with her dear friends, and read prolifically for her book club (where she claims they really did discuss the books.) Jean-Marie was also a foodie who loved, well, any meal, so long as it started on time. At 5 o’clock she was always ready for a glass of wine and to socialize, or to watch a classic British murder mystery. Jean-Marie loved her family most of all. She was quick to crash the dance floor at family weddings, invite herself on fishing trips with her “boys,” or host her grandchildren for homemade waffles, which she would invariably declare perfect. Grandma’s house was a welcoming home to her grandchildren and Jean-Marie was grateful for her frequent guests. In recent years, she took road trips to meet her new great-grandchildren, and she cherished her growing family. She is survived by her children: Craig, Melanie (Christopher), Michele (David), Christina (Terry) and Michael (Betsy) along with grandchildren Lisa, Katie, Amy, Jenna, Kyle, Alix, Lauren, Brooke, Kaylin, Bailey, Grant and great-grandsons Hudson and Bennett, brother William Powell, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family. Jean-Marie danced freely and unabashedly to her own rhythm. She lived the same way: giving of herself, and sharing her love and laughter without restraint. She now rejoins her husband of 41 years, Gary, so they may dance eternally, in perfect harmony.
