J. Wayne Sylvester of Irvine, California passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2017, at the age of 79. Wayne was born on November 10, 1937 in Altadena, California, to Dr. John W. and Dorothy G. Sylvester (née Gauntner). Wayne spent 35 years with the Orange County Sanitation districts starting as a staff accountant and retiring as the General Manager. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Rita and his children from a previous marriage, John, Cory, Chad and Daren. Wayne’s stepson, Scott Patterson, preceded him in death. Wayne will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Mardy, and his eleven grandchildren, Mallory, Kyle, Courtney, Cody, Cacy, Canyon, Carsyn, Kayla, Tyler, Corey, Megan and four great-grandchildren who knew him as “Grandpa Duke.” He will be missed by so many.
