Laura attended college at Chico State University in Chico, California, and graduated in June of 1963. After first teaching in Northern California, Laura came to Cypress Elementary School District in the fall of 1965. She taught primary grades at Cawthon, Cypress, Swain, and Vessels Elementary. Shortly after arriving in Cypress, Laura became a reading specialist for grades K-6, working with gifted, ESL, and students experiencing reading difficulties. She retired from teaching in June of 2003 after thirty-nine years of service to the children of California.
Laura loved traveling, especially to England. One of her most treasured moments was meeting James Herriot, famous veterinary surgeon, and author of All Creatures Great and Small. Like Herriot, Laura also loved ALL creatures great and small, with a special place in her heart for children and animals.
Laura was the devoted mother of three border terriers, Jonesy, Sadie, and Tink, and one mixed-breed, Bonnie. She is survived by her beloved Tink and her many, many friends from Cypress School District. Her friends will be eternally grateful to her caregivers, Sharon Knight, Maria Ferriol, and Diane Crowder.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation in Laura’s name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) at https://secure.aspca.org.
