Yes Leonard raised all 6 of us kid, moved us from intercity out into the suburbs; sent us all to private schools and introduced us to tennis and golf! He instilled discipline and hard work! We practiced sometimes 6-8 hours per day and sometimes 2 times a day! He never missed any of our school tennis matches, basketball games, football games, or school activities! We moved to California ; where he trained our friends in wrestling; where he was a top wrestler! We learned the saying; “Rise and shine from him! He taught us pride in our home, our yard and everything we embarked on!! He was strict, but none of us ever got into trouble! He was an amazing father to us and we all appreciated him! Thank you Leonard and my heart has been heavy since your passing!! We sure wish things had turned out differently, but God has a plan fir all of us and he is sees all! Good bye Pops!!

My condolences to the West Family.
I was fortunate to serve along with Leonard as Risk Management Specialists for San Bernardino County.  During my years working with Leonard, he served as a mentor, colleague, and friend to me.  He was a true teacher as he humbly (mostly) shared his professional experience and counsel, aiding me in the delivery of quality service to County staff.  I will miss him, along and his wit, smile, and sense of humor.  I will also miss those Monday lunch periods in the fall, laughing and groaning as Leonard and I analyzed (and agonized over) the weekend performance of our beloved Cornhusker Football Team. Blessings and love to you my dear friend.

Many people don’t know this but Leonard raised 6 amazing kids with my mother Floydie West.  He taught us excellence and how to win in any circumstance.  He taught us grit and perseverance and will be truly missed. May his flame continue to shine bright through the darkness.

It is with great sorrow that I write this condolence for the West family. Leonard was a kind, funny and gentle man that I had the pleasure of working with at San Bernardino County for many years. 

I learned a lot from Leonard about demeanor and connecting with people. He had the innate ability to meet someone and immediately gain their trust and respect. 

I will always remember Leonard for his laughter and wit. God bless you Leonard and the West family.

Sending the family condolences.  
I was fortunate to know Leonard for nearly 20 years, most of them working for the San Bernardino County Risk Management Safety Section.  Leonard enjoyed leadership and team roles as a Specialist lending consultant services to primarily the Human Services Department.  But he frequently assisted in other departments with specific issues  as he had extensive experience and exposure from his many years in the field.  Whether conducting ergonomic assessments, inspections or driver education, he brought calm when things got rough and a smile when it was really needed.  Many a problem was solved over lunch and Leonard's particular perview.  He told stories of his beloved wife and family and lived through extraordinary times and conditions.
