Our mother, sister, and grandmother, Lizbeth Kathleen “Kat” Dennis, 71, of Brea, died on June 18, 2025. Kat was born on February 23, 1954 to parents Bill Dennis & Mary Collins. After Kat graduated from South High School in 1972, she attended cosmetology school in Bakersfield for a few years. She then pursued her professional career as a buyer for the sailboat line, Hobie Cat for many years. Kat also worked for Ochoa Marble & Granite. Before retiring, she was a longtime employee for CPC Fabrication, Inc, a sheet metal contractor in Santa Ana, where she was a human resources manager.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Chace & Christina Bailey and Myles & Kellen Bailey, and her four grandchildren, Frances (8), Ignatius (6), Caleb (6), & Winter (4). In her retirement years, Kat enjoyed spending time on the beach and hiking with her children and grandchildren. Passionate about the outdoors, Kat encouraged her family to remain healthy and to spend time enjoying the outdoors, including swimming at the beach.
As a teenager, Kat took pleasure in home economics classes and was quite the seamstress, often sewing her own clothes and creating unique fashions, including numerous peasant blouses on her Singer Bros. sewing machine alongside her sister, Mary “Pitty-Pat” Dennis, 69, who Kat is also survived by.
Pitty-Pat recalls her sister Kat working overtime to lovingly care for her children. She shares fond stories of Kat and her family taking trips to the beach and doing dune buggy rides through the Oceano sand dunes at Pismo Beach. Kat would also go on family vacations to Pine Flat Lake in the foothills of Sierra Nevada, where they would rent a barge and waterski.
Kat is also survived by her brother, Terry Dennis, 73, who calls his sister “adventurous”. He recalled how Kat took her friends up on a dare at a late night party in the oil fields on the outskirts of Bakersfield where she climbed a towering 25-foot high “Nodding Donkey” (oil pump jack) and rode it as if it was a wild stallion.
Kat is also survived by her sister, Lisa Van Proyen.
