Lois came into this world on September 24, 1934. She was named Lois Joan Downin by her parents, William and Laura Downin of Hackensack, New Jersey. In her early days she was a typical small home town kid. She was born in Hackensack Hospital, raised in Hackensack, graduated from Hackensack High
School and was married on June 1 1 , 1955 in Hackensack Methodist Church. Her husband of 60+ years is William (Bill) Clark.
After marriage, Lois and Bill attended The Pennsylvania State University, both graduating in 1959. Lois graduated magna cum laude in the school of Journalism. They moved to Southern California in 1959 to continue Bill's education and have lived in the North Tustin area for over 45 years.
Lois had a career in journalism and project management. She was a reporter for three major daily papers in the New York City area and later worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in Fullerton where she was a technical writer, technical editor and project manager for 20 years. She retired from Hughes in 1998 and opened a consulting company, called Inteltek, which remained in business for seven
years. One of her Inteltek jobs, was to review Soviet Union periodicals which were, of course, in Russian. To do this she taught herself to read Russian.
Lois took time out from her career to have a family and raised two children, a son Jeffrey Clark, who now lives in Arizona and a daughter, Karen Brimmer, who now lives in Massachusetts. Lois has three grandchildren by Karen, Rachel, Adam and Cole Brimmer. She leaves a sister Betty Downin Herman.
Lois was always involved in outside activities. She was a Brownie leader, a Girl Scout leader, a 4H leader and a member of The Church of the Foothills where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a past president of the Orange, California Chapter of the American Association of University Women, a past president of Crescendo, a Guild of the Orange County Music Center and a past president of a Mammoth Lakes, California condominium association. She was active in the Tustin Area Women's Club, two book clubs, the Orange County Penn State Alumni Association and the Orange County Wine Society.
Lois was very active in The Nature Conservancy. She has asked in her Will, that in the event of her death, she would like any donations in her name to be made to The Nature Conservancy, 201 Mission Street, Fourth Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105.
Lois loved life and everything about it. She loved books, art, music, travel, and people. She left us on April 30, 2016 and will be missed dearly by all.
