Man-Mei Wu was born on June 27, 1966 to father Wei-Ching Wu and mother Jin-Hwan Juong Wu in the city of Pingtung, Taiwan. She began the study of piano at age nine and was active in recitals since age 17.
After completing study in piano performance at Tainan Junior College in Taiwan in 1988, she began studies at North Texas State University in Denton, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Theory in 1993, and a Master’s in Music Composition in the year 2000.
Additionally while at NTSU, she did graduate coursework in Business Computer Information Systems, where she became the network manager and Web Master for the Department of Economics. Man-Mei continued the study of Information Systems at California State University at Fullerton, and was awarded a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Systems. She then went on to be employed as a web developer for an international trade company.
Throughout this time she continued to teach music to private students. Later she was employed at Yamaha School of Music and Pianoforte Music Studio and also taught private students at her home studio. Throughout the years, many of her students progressed to advanced levels and many were awarded at music festivals. She was active in the Music Teachers Association of California, servicing as President.
Man-Mei enjoyed traveling and hoped one day to go on a safari in Africa. As an adult, she learned to ice skate, achieving Bronze level certificate. For creative expression, she taught herself how to make jewelry of her own design, featuring her creations on her self-designed website beckywdesigns.
Most of all Man-Mei, or Rebecca as she was known to many, was passionate about teaching and was very dedicated to her students. She brought the same passion to living and fought for what she believed in.
