Marita Davis Herndon

In the quiet hush that follows great loss, we find our hearts full of stories, laughter, and love—tender memories that linger. We celebrate the life and warm and gentle heart of Marita Davis Herndon that passed into eternity on July 18, 2025.

Marita was born on December 16, 1938, in Middletown, Ohio to John and Alberta Davis. She married Robert Leslie Womack and had three children, Jennifer Jo Womack (Jody), Kevin Leslie Womack and John Tyler Davis Womack (Tyler). Marita moved to California in 1976 with her son Tyler and shortly thereafter, her daughter Jody and Kevin followed. Her journey took her to Central California where she lived in Ahwahnee, California with her husband Jerry Herndon.

Marita was a very active member of her church, Oakhurst Evangelical Free, where she participated in Bible studies, volunteered in different activities and spent some time as the wedding coordinator when she was on the Deaconess board. She and Jerry regularly volunteered at the local voting polls as well.

She enjoyed hobbies that included sewing for her grandchildren, watercolor painting, and collecting and organizing family photos. More importantly she loved her family, loved and enjoyed fellowship with friends and she had the most wonderful sense of humor and laugh.

She is now at home with her Lord and Savior, dancing by her side in Heaven is her daughter Jody that preceded her on April 20, 2014 and her husband Jerry Herndon on November 8, 2021. Marita will be placed to rest with her daughter on Saturday, July 26th at 10:30am at Fairhaven Memorial
