

Mattie was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 12, 1929. Mattie met her husband, Warren, when
both were students in the engineering department at Washington University, St. Louis. Mattie
and Warren married in 1949 and moved to California in order for Warren to begin his career in
engineering. Mattie and Warren lived in Orange and raised a daughter and son. Mattie returned
to school in the ’70s and attended Orange Coast College receiving an AA degree and Cal State
Fullerton where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Radio/
Television/Film. Mattie had many interests including music (piano, guitar, voice), sewing, baking,
reading, and writing. Mattie sang in choirs, performed in local theater, wrote news copy for a radio
station, and wrote and performed a one-woman play. Mattie was predeceased by Warren, her
parents, Joseph Redmond and Mary Escontrias, and brothers, Joseph and Thomas. Surviving
are children Paula (Max) Sidler and Matthew (Eve) Link as well as grandchildren Stefanie (Will)
Banks and great-grandson, Oliver, Nathaniel (Bethany) Sidler and great-grandchildren Brayden,
Conner and Sutton, Andrew (Courtney) Sidler, and great-grandsons Jack and James, Collin
Sidler, Landon Sidler (Cindy) and great-grandson, Henry, Perry Sidler, and Eden Link; sister,
Suzette and numerous nieces and nephews including Kimberly and grandniece, Mattie. Visitation
will be on Wednesday, March 2, at 9 AM at Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana, with a graveside
