Phyllis Jean Benson

Phyllis Benson, a beloved member of Hephatha Luthern, entered eternal glory on October 25, 2021. A memorial service will be held on November 8, 2021, at Fairhaven Memorial at 1:00 pm. All are invited. Please uphold Phyllis' family in your prayers.

In His mercy, our Lord has brought Phyllis Benson's sufferings to an end and has called her to Himself. Though we do not grieve as those who have no hope, we do still grieve. We share the burdens that our brothers and sisters in Christ bear. As the Apostle Paul puts it so concisely, we "weep with those who weep" (Rom. 12:15) in their time of loss and pain.

It is precisely at such times of loss and pain that it is most necessary for our Savior's words to once again reach our ears and our hearts. The renewed hearing of Christ’s resurrection is that distant triumph song by which hearts are brave again and arms made strong. Therefore we will gather together to hear Christ's promise for Phyllis (and for us), and respond with our voices joined in thanksgiving at the funeral service which will be held at Fairhaven Memorial on November 8 at 1:00 pm.

"Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting" (Ps. 126:5).

Prayer: O God of grace and mercy, we give thanks for Your loving-kindness shown to Phyllis, who now rests from her labors. Grant your people to know the consolations of your love in Your Son's death and resurrection on our behalf. Grant that we also may be faithful unto death and receive the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
