It is with deep sadness we share our beloved sister, Phyllis Mendez aka “Mimi” (by family members) passed on Saturday, March 30, 2024. We are deeply saddened and shocked by her death. Mimi was born on September 14th, to Gonzalo “Beany” and Mary “Helen” Mendez. Mimi was the 5th child born to Beany and Helen, and often called the baby of the family. Her sisters often joked she was the spoiled daughter.
After graduating from Villa Park High School, she attended Fullerton College and had a lengthy career in the finance/mortgage industry. Mimi’s favorite hobbies included traveling, camping, snow skiing, jet skiing, cooking, visiting with family, friends, any new adventure (always carrying her trusty backpack).
She met the love of her life Damon Ellis in Orange County., She loved traveling to Kentucky, often wearing her favorite Kentucky sweatshirt. “She was one of the strongest, most loving, caring people he had ever met.”
Mimi’s journey touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories. Mimi was preceded in death by her brother Gonzalo Mendez, IV, she is survived by her loving parents, Beany and Helen; sisters, Jeannie; Julie (Scott) their son Jordan (Yessie) and grandson Jayson; Suzie (Andre) and their children Gonzo (Justine) Sadie and Ripp; Jessica; Brandi and Damon. We will forever miss her and hold her memories dear in our hearts. We love you and will miss you!
