

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roberto Daniel Bignes, a beloved husband, father, mentor, and renowned chef. Roberto, at 72 years old, departed from this world on August 26, 2023 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, passion, and culinary excellence that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Roberto was born on June 22nd 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he grew up to become a man of great character and unwavering determination. In his early years, he met the love of his life, Maria Fernanda, and their love story blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 37 years. Together, they created a loving and supportive home for their son, Andre.
Roberto's passion for cooking became his life's calling. He honed his skills over the years, and his talent was undeniable. He fulfilled his dream in the fall of 2009 of becoming a chef and went on to become the proud owner of the renowned restaurant, IL DOLCE, located in the heart of Newport Beach/ Costa Mesa. Where he shared his culinary masterpieces with the community. His creations were a symphony of flavors, and his dedication to his craft earned him the admiration and respect of both patrons and fellow chefs.
Beyond his culinary talents, Roberto was a pillar of strength and wisdom for his family and friends. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, often gathering them around the dinner table every Sunday for family dinners to savor his delectable creations. His warm smile, generous spirit, and the twinkle in his eyes during these gatherings will forever be etched in our memories.
Roberto was a loving husband and father. He believed in nurturing talent and passing on his knowledge, leaving an indelible mark on all who were gracious enough to know him.
In his memory, we celebrate the life of Roberto Daniel Bignes, a man who brought joy to countless taste buds and hearts. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to “let’s be frank” supporting cancer research at City of Hope hospital, in honor of Roberto's memory.
