Ruth was born Ruth Schroeder on August 26, 1937, in Des Plaines, Illinois, the daughter of Grace (Dierking) and Ernest Schroeder.
Ruth met the love of her life, Carlyle (Carl) Wulff in Bensenville, IL. Ruthie and Carl shared a beautiful marriage that lasted nearly 70 years. They were married on September 1, 1956, and this year would have marked their 70th wedding anniversary.
Together, Ruth and Carl began their family in 1958 with the birth of their son Don, followed by daughter Kathy, and son Jeff. They purchased their first home in Villa Park, Illinois, where they created countless memories together.
In 1964, Ruth and Carl moved their young family to Orange, California, where they remained for the next 62 years in the same beloved home.
Ruth’s interests and talents were many. She taught herself to play the piano and enjoyed music throughout her life. She bowled for nearly 30 years, volunteered for 16 years at CHOC as a baby cuddler, loved traveling — including 9 memorable trips to Australia — and spent countless happy hours doing jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, and playing cards.
Above all else, Ruth treasured her family and was especially proud of the life she and Carl built together. She never missed an opportunity to brag lovingly about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was loved by everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her gentle and caring nature made people feel instantly special and valued. She was selfless, kindhearted, fun to be around, and deeply cherished the people in her life. Some of her happiest moments were spent enjoying a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, and meaningful conversation with those she loved.
Ruth’s passing brings great sadness to all who knew her. She passed peacefully in her sleep while resting in “Mom’s chair.” While her family and friends mourn the loss of a treasured loved one, they take comfort in knowing she has been reunited with those she loved and missed dearly. The sky shines a little brighter with Ruth in it.
Ruth is survived by her devoted husband, Carl; her children, Don, Kathy (Jim McCausey), and Jeff (Leslie); her five grandchildren, Mallory (Jacob Nelson), Brittany Beauchamp, Chris, Brad, and Jeffrey; and her great-grandchildren, Jane and Jaxson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Ernest Schroeder, and her sister, Ethel Rathe.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held during a pre-arranged family reunion in July.
