Uncle I can not describe the love I have for you. I miss you so much. Im proud to say that you are my uncle. Theres not many people in this world with a heart like yours. I see that other people are commenting on the donkey song, I thought I was the only one who loved that song (just kidding lol). I will never forget how excited we were as kids waiting for you to play it and make that noise lol. I hope I made you proud when you finally got to hear me sing the marriachi I learned for you ( Tu Solo Tu) that was learned especially for you. I cant forget how you sat up from the bed smiled and a little tear went down your face. Those bright eyes lit up like they were the Christmas lights on the tree early Chriatmas morning. I cant forget that face. I am eturnally thankful for your kindness and love you gave me and I love you Uncle Sal. Give everyone a kiss for me and hug, especially my Papi Fidel. Now you sing with them again. Love you so much....

I first met Pancho several years ago while walking by Sal’s home with my late beagle Yukie. It should not surprise anyone that Pancho and I instantly became friends. He was a kind and open man. Most mornings Pancho was on the porch waiting for us to walk by and would yell out “Hi Mike”  welcoming us to stop and talk for a while.  We always had great conversations. I was sad when he moved away and sadder when hearing that his health was failing. He was a kind, gentle and caring man. We will all miss him.

I have sooo many good memories of you “Mr. Najera” (as I knew u as a young 15 year old high schooler).  But the best memory I have is sitting there in the family room on Maple Street listening to you singing  the original “ Donkey Song” and laughing so much it hurt.  And then listening to you and Jerry playing guitars and singing together. It’s hard to believe it’s been over 30 years now but yet it seems like yesterday. I’m so glad I got to see you on Mother’s Day. I still can see ur face and how u smiled at me. Knowing you recognized me filled my heart with joy. You’re in a better place now but you are now and forever will be missed here.  My Najera Family ❤️

Sal was a distant primo to me on the Sierra side of my Mom's familia. We only met over the phone but it was great getting to talk with him.  My condolences to his familia. Vaya con Dios y descanse en paz, primo.  I bet the family reunion you are attending "is the bomb" like they used to say!!

Sal (Poncho) Najera was quite a character out in the oil patch. He ran Rig #927 and on occasion I worked his rig. He was one comical, laid back dude. He was the essence of Zen. Seems he regularly got under Red's skin. He was in No Hurry to get to the next well. He would write songs on a napkin and serenade us with his melodies. Loved his Donkey rendition. What a voice. His twinkly-eyed Grin and his hearty laugh still resound for those that had the privilege to work with him. HeeHaw Sal.😎
