Sam Gerome, 88, born June 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of Nick and Mary Gerome (DiGeronimo) and the devoted husband of Joan Costello Gerome, whom he married on November 21, 1959.
Together, Sam and Joan built a life centered on faith, hard work, family, and love. They raised five children: Corine Gerome; Jeff and Robyn Gerome; Anthony and Aimee Gerome; Rob and Janell Cox; and Christopher and Jodi Gerome.
Sam was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Schellin, Tyler, Kennedy, Karli, Riley, Mollie, Brandon, Lexi, Cassandra, Lucas, Jace, Reese, and Delani. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Kinlee, Preston, Navy, Morrison, JJ, Frankie, Georgia, and Maverick, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of another great-granddaughter.
Sam began his career in the supermarket industry at age 14 as a parking lot attendant and bag boy. Through determination and hard work, he rose from bag boy to Senior Vice President of Administration for Stater Bros. Markets. Following his time at Stater Bros., he helped lead several successful supermarket ventures, including Food 4 Less Markets of Southern California. He later partnered in the ownership of two beloved fine dining Italian restaurants, Portofino's in La Habra and Marcello's in San Pedro, which became a cherished part of his business legacy.
Though he achieved great professional success, Sam's greatest pride was always his family. He and Joan traveled extensively, enjoyed countless family vacations, and created memories that continue to live on through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sam often said that memories would last a lifetime. Through his dedication, generosity, perseverance, and unwavering love for his family, he created a legacy that will continue for generations.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who knew him.
