Sitha Duong was born as Buth, Sary on February 12, 1951 to Buth, Norn and Thong, San in Chrey Loas, a town in the Ponhea Lieu District of Kandal Province, Cambodia. His parents relocated to Phnom Penh where they raised Sitha (Sary) and his seven siblings.
From 1970-1975, he served in the Ministry of Interior as a national police officer. Unfortunately, his services on the police force ended shortly after the government was overthrown by the Pol Pot’s regime. He was relocated to a labor camp where he lived from 1975-1979. He was one of three siblings to survive the Khmer Rouge Regime.
In 1979 he sought refuge in Thailand and immigrated to the United States as a refugee in 1980. In 1983, he met and married his wife, Malyvann. They had three children: Maxwell, Mitchell, and Samantha.
In April 2017, Sitha was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away peacefully on December 21, 2019 at the age of 68 in Anaheim.
He is survived by his sister, Buth, Sokhem, his brother, Buth, Sarom, his wife, Malyvann, and children: Maxwell and his wife Lupe, Mitchell, and Samantha.
