My Grandmother Sylvia aka "Grammy" was a hard-worker who figuratively held multiple jobs. Not only was she like a second Mother to me, she was also a Caregiver, Shuttle Driver, Master Chef, and from her living room a recurring Guest on the tv show "The Price is Right."

Speaking of TV shows, she had quite a few favorites as we all do. I remember watching "I Love Lucy" with her. Sitting there listening to her funny comments  accompanied by infectious laughter and don't get me started on what she'd say during "The Jerry Springer show."

In addition to having a good sense of humor she had a knack for making people feel welcome. Ever the gracious hostess she always tended to her guests and families needs, often being the last to sit down to eat. There were always some goodies to be had in her kitchen. Whether store bought or if you were lucky one of her delicious signature recipes.

She also was an avid greeting card sender. Whether it was a birthday or major holiday us grandchildren always received a card. Even when I used to live close by nearly seeing her everyday she would still insist on sending the cards in the mail every year. When asked why she insisted on mailing her grandkids cards rather than just handing them out in person. I recall her saying "So you guys can get something nice in the mail." 

She always enjoyed exchanging stories about what our pets and silly neighborhood animals were up to.  She had a soft spot for cats. I recall her giving nicknames to them and even leaving food out for strays.

Even though you are gone, I know you are in Heaven right now probably having some See's Candies with the Lucille Ball (Lucy) and Vivian Vance (Ethel) from the "I Love Lucy" show.

I miss you Grammy and will always treasure the good memories we shared together.

Wednesday, so many people will attend the beautiful service for Sylvia.  Never again will the familia ever see so many relatives from both familia together on planet earth.
     Sylvia is a gift from God.  Jesus created Titters for Him and for us.  All of Titters family  that love each other are excited and welcome Sylvia home!  May God enjoy her laughter and Joy!  Five minutes with Titters and she has us laughing and smiling.
     Titters, you are one of my favorite sisters!  " I will see you again-you beat me to Jesus Christ, you ran the race and won."  We all LOVE YOU!!

Aunt Titters and family came to the ranch to visit one time and something caught her eye. Pretty sure it was one of the hundreds of cows that surrounded us where we lived. Or maybe a chicken landed on one of the many cows. All I know is that if it was something surprising and entertaining, she would point like this and just laugh and laugh. She would throw in a “can you belieeeeve it?!?” Or a “Man-Alive!” 

One of my memories is when our kids were young. I would call Titters after work and ask if she wanted to go to the beach with the kids to watch the sunset. She always said yes and she would make baloney sandwiches for us. Daniel was always ready to give us his pass from work, so we didn’t have to pay the entrance fee for Corona Del Mar Beach. We would arrive at the beach just as people were leaving and stay until the sun was setting. One time Titters took Patrick and Tigers to the water, holding their hands, as they were very small. Suddenly a rogue wave came towards Titters and the kids, and it got almost to her waist! She saw it and grabbed the kids hands and pulled them up high. I had my eyes on Titters holding up our boys so bravely! She was so short but she was mighty tall that day!  She was planted in the sand and the water did not pull her down. That’s how she was in life, firmly planted in the roots of her family and of all those she loved. I thank God for giving us such a loving Sister that was with us into our old age. We will always deeply love and cherish her.

The one true comfort I have is what the Bible promises, that my Sister Titters will awaken and live again, on a paradise earth.

“The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.” Psalm 37:29
“He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 25:8


I was checking my messages on my cell yesterday and saw a message from Titters. It took me a long time to check her message because just seeing it there made me cry. After some time, I clicked on the message. She said to me: “Hi Laura! I’ll call you on the other phone. Bye!” She just made me laugh every time we spoke. We played phone tag a lot.

Sonya described our Precious and Wonderful Sister perfectly. I always thought of her as the “Happy Days Sister” because she loved her 50’s music and she had a love for life, the life she shared with Daniel and her beautiful children, Bonnie, Olivia and Daniel Jr., and her grandchildren. 

For part of her young life, she grew up with our Mom and her siblings Christy, Arty, Patsy, myself, Freddy and Sonya. Then she went to live with Tio Polo and Tia Angie. There was no safer place for her to be than them. In good times and hard times, Titters always kept a hopeful, positive attitude. She was tough in spirit like our Mom, Tia Angie, Tio Polo, Ordy and Vera and even our Ysais cousins who played a huge part in her life! She had many friends and she especially loved her friend Rose and her sisters in law Nikki, Mona and Irene. They loved her back!

She was also a master-chef at home, because she learned from the best, my Grandma Connie and Grandma Angie. From her  “deee-licious”  Menudo, to her epic corn beef and potato tacos. No one would miss an invite from her when she cooked. You knew that this food wasn't going to transport you to another country but somewhere even better: a taste of the past, a felling of family and being truly loved with each bite.

Getting the most from life's simple pleasures was my Aunt Titters. I don't remember her ever being depressed or down. If I had to use one word to describe her it would be Happy. 

These are just a few of the precious memories I have of my Aunt Titters. I know through my faith that with Gods Perfect memory she will live again on a paradise earth, and I will once more be able to travel the world with each meal we have together. 

John 8:28-29 Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life....

Who knew going to a buffet was a really a trip around the world. My Aunt Titters did. I was always excited when I got to tag along for the culinary tour. She was a true foodie before that word became a “thing”. It gave me so much joy to witness her excitement being able to taste and try new foods. As we would wonder the buffet selection together she would say “ I'm gonna try some of this shrimp, I never had it with this kind of sauce”, and “Patrick, did you see the shrimp, it looks so good, you gotta get some!” When we'd arrive back to our table, she would take a bite, her eyes would close and a slight smile would emerge, and I could just see the delight take over as she savored the new flavors. She would open her eyes and say “its deee-licious”. 

In 2017, we got to take a cruise to Ensenada, with one of the stops being Catalina Island. I drove my mom and her all over the Island to see the sights. It was around noon when we got back to turn in our golf cart, and we asked her if she wanted to hang out on the Island a little longer. She instantly said No, because today the boat was gonna serve fried chicken and corn bread. She was having a vacation with-in the vacation during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Titters (Sylvia)  will be deeply missed.  I miss my beautiful sister, quick-witted, loving, giving, always happily feeding all visitors and making them feel at home.  She was extremely funny, generous and the leader of the pack, the eldest of 7 and she ruled in her position brilliantly.  She was very smart and kind.  She always knew the latest info about your big families, and she always knew where to get a good sale. 

There are so many great memories of her, too many to list, and most heartfelt, so I will just list one.  She used to make tortillas in sets for each of her kids, her and Daniel, and she never forgot about me (her youngest sibling) and my son Turi  (she called Turi her son from another mother).   I lived next door to Titters for over 25 years and our kitchens were back to back, divided by a fence.  That fence is where we handed things back and forth to each other.  When she made me and Turi tortillas, she would call me and say "I have something for you and Turi. Go to the fence when I knock on the wall." She would knock and we would meet and we'd hold hands and tell each other we love each other, as she handed me our tortillas.

We miss you so much Titters, big sister and loving aunt.

I was so blessed to meet your dear wife/mother and spend a day sharing stories and laughter when Luke and I went to California.  While the time I knew her was very short, I truly enjoyed it.  Daniel and family, you are in my heart and in my prayers.  May she rest in Heaven.  ~ Deb Reyes
