Terry Harriet Barnes passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease on August 8, 2017, in Santa Clara California. She was 82. Terry always loved to sew and started the first custom quilting factory in Orange County, Terry Barnes Custom Quilting, which was a family business for many years. Terry was born Harriet Kind in Detroit, Michigan. In her teen years, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. In Phoenix, she was active with B’nai B’rith Girls. Later, she raised dogs for love and money, and kept her favorites, a black collie named Brandy and a brown miniature French poodle named Chapeaux. After moving to California, she grew fond of birds, and in Anaheim, she adored a little yellow-naped amazon heel-biting talking parrot named Pierre, and loved her dogs Dashka (a Samoyed) and Phoebe (a sheltie). Terry greatly loved animals her entire life. She is survived by her sister Cecilia Duchin, her three children, Deborah, Pamela, and Steven, and her beloved grandchildren. Terry is remembered as a kind, beautiful, well-dressed, generous woman who always placed others’ needs above her own. She believed in forgiveness and always reminded us there are “two sides to every story.” Terry will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her values will be an unforgettable beacon for those she influenced by example. A celebration of Terry’s life will be Sunday, August 13, 12:00, at Fairhaven Memorial Park in the Mortuary Chapel. Fairhaven is at 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends of Terry send a donation to the ASPCA to honor her love of animals, or to Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) which funds research aiming to eradicate this terrible disease. Finally, Terry's daughters Deb and Pam wish to thank Valley House Care Center in Santa Clara, CA for the excellent care provided to Terry since 2005.
