Timm Bishop was born on January 24, 1953 to Sarah (Sue) and Tillman (Tim) Bishop in Corona, California, joining his older brother, Paul, to complete the family of four. The foursome made pitstops in Long Beach, Garden Grove and Arkansas before settling in Santa Ana, California. While growing up the family owned a few gas stations and a Fish and Chips shop. The boys learned about pumping gas, frying fish and working hard.
Timm began playing drums at an early age, and joined the band at Santa Ana High School, where he met a clarinet player named Florence Vaca. Timm continued playing drums and loving Florence for the rest of his life.
After high school, Timm joined the United States Marine Corps Platoon Leader’s Course. He committed to training with his fellow Marines each summer until graduating from Santa Ana College and then Cal State Fullerton. He was commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps in 1976 and rose to the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged in 1989. Timm flew CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters and was a proud War Horse (HMH-465). Timm’s military career took his family from flight school in Florida to the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) in Tustin, to Okinawa Japan (twice), Virginia and back again to MCAS, Tustin. Timm lived proudly with the belief: “Once a Marine, always a Marine…just in a different uniform, in a different phase of life.” Semper Fidelis.
After the Marine Corps, using his experience as an officer and his Master Degree in Business Management, he began working in manufacturing; managing the production of medical devices, sprinkler systems, plastic bottles, hearing aids, garden hoses and more recently, horticultural nursery pots. Timm managed crews, lines and plants by example – ensuring every team member understood their value to the process and to him.
When Timm married his high school sweetheart he gained 7 additional brothers and sisters. He eventually became the proud Uncle of 21 nieces and nephews, Nino to 5 Godchildren, and Great Uncle to 13 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Married for nearly 42 years, Timm and Florence have two daughters, Rachel and Debrah, and one granddaughter, Mara Rose. Mara’s birth in 2013 brought a special joy to his life. He cherished spending Tuesday and Thursday evenings with her – swimming, making popcorn, dismantling and re-building toy car engines, planting and tending a garden, working on special projects and learning about “Paw Patrol”.
Timm always showed up - for his family, for his Marines, for his friends, for his co-workers, for his band mates, for his racquetball buddies. He was a man you could count on. Timm was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke clearly about his love and care for the people in his life. All will miss him dearly.
