Venola was born November 29, 1924 in Mesa, Arizona to Carl and Hilda (Kirchoff) Gates. She passed peacefully at the age of 94 on December 1, 2018. She was the youngest of three sisters, Eileen Dobson (deceased) of Arizona and Lucile Patterson (deceased) of Orange, California. At the age of 7 her family moved to Orange.
Her life was filled with many achievements. She was active in all sports, Glee Club and Operetta Club at Orange High School. When she was a junior at OHS, she met Murl F. Redwine at the Pike in Long Beach at a USO military dance. She graduated from OHS when she was 17 and married Murl when she was 18 and he was 21. They got married that the First Christian Church in Orange on October 1, 1943 and have celebrated 63 years of marriage. While Murl was overseas during World War II, Venola was working at the First National Bank as a teller. She was Murl’s bookkeeper for the Mobil Gas Stations and for their H&R Auto Parts Store. Venola was a member of the Women’s Club of Orange for 36 years and she was active in Bridge and Golf groups.
Venola is survived by her two daughters, Kay Redwine Blake (Dennis) and Janet Redwine Pereira. She has 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Mabel Redwine of Idaho and Geneva Baxter-Jardine of Washington, nieces, nephews and a cousin. A memorial service will be held at the Waverly Chapel, Fairhaven Memorial Park, on December 21, 2018 at 2:00pm, with a graveside service to follow. A reception will be held at The Villa on 510 E. Katella Avenue, Orange from 4:00-7:00pm.
