The passing of Coach Jake stirs the same kind of heartfelt emotion as the loss of  my own father.  Jake was my coach, my mentor, my teacher, a pillar of strength, and best of all, a dear friend.  Jake’s influence in my life was a gift for which I will always look to God with a mighty and humble gratitude.  

I cannot even begin to count the multitudes of lives  positively touched by this great man, other than to say that I have met so many, and all of them seemed to share a similar sentiment of great respect and admiration.  I only wish that all young men were given the opportunity of knowing a man like Jake in their own lives. 

Thanks for everything Jake.  I will see you again somewhere down the road.

Thoughts and prayers for the family, so sorry for your loss. I feel very lucky to have played on the womens team for Coach “Jake”.  A great man and coach. 

Gary was a good classmate, team mate and friend.  I am happy that he was able to pursue his interests as a player and Coach.  We were both Jim Stangeland Boys.  Jim was our high school coach who introduced and challenged to higher goals.  Gary became a disciple and confidant of Jim's.  Gary passed on Jim's and his own enthusiasm and knowledge to many.  We are all grateful.

Diana, Gary's sweetheart was Gary's Rock.  Thank you for all the companionship and hard care giving years you gave Gary.

To the Jacobsen family, I am very sorry for your loss. I was 18 years old when I moved to California and Coach Jake was one of the reasons I never gave up. He was not only a coach but like a father figure to me and many others as well. A few years ago, I received a random letter in the mail from coach and it touched my heart to know he’s thought about me all these years later. It was about that time we lost contact.

There hasn’t been a year that’s gone by I haven’t shared of story of his with aomeome I’ve met. He’s given some of the best advised I’ve ever received. One memory I’d like to share  is about a time in practice. I felt like he was picking on me because he kept yelling at me. I got upset and said something to him and he pulled me aside (with his straw hat and chin down looking at me above his glasses) He said, “when I’m not talking to you is when you need to worry. If I didn’t want you to succeed, I wouldn’t waste my time on you”. If those weren’t his words, they were pretty darn close. I had a 1.8 GPA out of high school. After my 2nnd chance, I have an MBA and a great career.

 I can’t accept my successes without Coach Names leadership and mentoring in my life. Thank you for all you’ve done for us coach. Thank you thank you thank you. May the lord hold a special place for you in heaven because you deserve it!
