

Surrounded by all of her children and many of her grandchildren, Antonia Varela Chacón died Thursday morning after a short illness. She and her late husband Manuel Chacón raised nine children. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Mrs. Chacón’s four daughters Hortensia Montes (Guillermo, dec.), Hermelinda Sapien (Roberto), Gloria Chacón and Rosa Maria Chacón and her five sons Manuel (Armida), Rigo (Lucy), Uriel, Miguel and Luis, all of San Jose, and Stepson Jose Efren Chacón, dec. and his children, Betty, Ana, Lorena and Sonia, all of New Mexico,described their mother as a person who was compassionate beyond measure. She was born in Central, New Mexico, Mrs. Chacón’s parents decided to move to Chihuahua, Mexico. While a school teacher in Galeana, Chihuahua, Antonia met and married fellow faculty member Manuel Chacón. They eventually moved to the United States. Mrs. Chacón is also survived by her sister Maria of New Mexico and her brother Guadalupe of Benson, Arizona. Her father, Abraham Varela, Mother, Candelaria Dominguez and three of her sisters, Carmen, Isidora and Nicolasa preceded her in death. Rosary and eulogy will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. Both Celebrations of Life will be at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 5111 San Felipe Rd., San Jose 95138. Interment at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being made by Lima Family Santa Clara.
