Mrs. Barbara Ann Wilson, age 93, of Aiken, S.C., daughter of the late Barbara Young Johnson and the late Carl Eric Johnson, entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 9:15 p.m. Barbara died in her daughter-in-law’s home with whom she resided. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lanham of Aiken, SC, son Robert Wilson of Fremont, CA, daughter Mary Hansen of Modesto, CA, and son James Wilson of Storm Lake, IA. Barbara had 9 grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was born in Longmont, CO and married John E. Wilson, in 1946, Oakland California, St. Margaret Mary RC Church. Her husband was a Vice President of Wells Fargo Bank. They raised their family of 4 children in San Leandro California. She was a Girl Scout leader, travelled the world: 7 trips to Europe, Croatia-Medujgorje, Israel and Russia. She was a hi-fi buff building her own hi-fi system in 1960 reveling in the beginnings of stereo sound. Serving as a library volunteer peaked her interest in getting her Masters in Library Science from the California State University at San Jose. She received her California teachers certificate for high school biology. She taught religious education at St. Felicitas, and sailed her 21 foot sloop on the bay. She served for over 20 years as the medical librarian for Santa Clara County Medical Center California. In her childhood she rode western saddle and gentled the horses fresh off the range during her college years. She was a voracious reader, opera affecianado, and had a passion for classical symphony as well as the ”Sons of the Pioneers,” avid gardener, and dedicated to her Catholic faith. She taught adult Bible classes at St. Lucy’s in San Jose for many years and brought Communion to the elderly in nursing homes for the same period of time. We all loved Momma, her gentle wisdom and unconditional love for her family and friends took root in our hearts and we are hopefully sharing it over and over again. ”She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel. She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness…Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting. The woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:25-31.
