Betty (Beatriz) Cornel Hilario passed away on September 26th, 2018. Her final days were spent surrounded by family & friends that touched her heart in some small way throughout her long and memorable life. Betty was born on October 25th, 1928 in Barrio Domanpot, Asingan, Pangasinan, in the Philippines. She attended Far Eastern University to become a nurse. She worked in several places, including the Family Clinic. On March 4th, 1961, she married Victor G. Hilario and moved to the United States. They lived in a small agricultural town, McFarland, in central California where they raised their two children, Maribet and Antonio (Tony). She was able to continue her nursing career at the hospital in the neighboring town of Delano. The family relocated in 1974 to San Jose, California to ease Victor’s failing health from Valley Fever and passed away in 1976. Betty was a very hard worker, loving, caring and giving and used these qualities to care and help others as a home health care aide, providing her services within the Santa Clara County. Before retiring, she worked at Agnews State Hospital.
She was a very devout Catholic and very active in church activities at the parishes of St. Victors and at Our Lady of Peace. She was an active member of the St. Joseph the Worker Group and frequently participated in the Feast of our Lady of Manaoag. She was an active member of the Asingan Association of Northern California, as one of the VPs of the San Jose/Santa Clara area. She loved to bowl and had a pretty good average in her bowling league. Travel was one of her passions. Along with trips back home to the Philippines, she was able visit Jerusalem, Nazareth, Rome and Spain. She also enjoyed the occasional bus trips to Reno. She was a very strong, independent woman, being able to take care of herself and offering her assistance without hesitation to anyone that needed it. Her love of family and friends was very evident and always enjoyed spending time with them.
Betty leaves behind her daughter Maribet Cornel Hilario Mason (Kim), her son Tony Cornel Hilario (Sonda), her two granddaughters Elizabeth Bowen (Mike) and Candace Hilario, her great granddaughter Skyler, another great granddaughter on the way and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and all her extended family.
