It is with sadness that we announce Ed’s passing due to cancer. He remained cared for at home until 6 days before he peacefully died at the VA Palo Alto Hospice. He led a fruitful, long life and approached life and death with both humor and dignity. Ed was born and raised in Stockton and joined the Navy at 16 – serving his country in WWII and Korea. In 1946 Ed married Nadine Schnaidt and in 1952 they moved to Santa Clara. Ed began a life-long commitment to his community beginning with the Santa Clara Police Reserves. He was a leader in our valley’s growth spending over 50 years as a City Building Inspector for Cupertino and Los Altos Hills, and Building Official for Campbell. Ed built a cabin in the Sierras and the family spent many weekends and vacations in Long Barn. It remains a part of his undeniable legacy he leaves us.
Ed is survived by his wife Nadine; daughter Pat Treadwell and son Tim; grandchildren Megan, Kaitlin, and Brian; great grandchildren Matt Reddy-Treadwell and Javan Inda; sister, Marion Strobel (Clarence), sister-in-law Kay Schnaidt, and nieces and nephews – Lora, Dave, John, and Susan. Ed was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Edith, infant son Dennis, grandson Justin Treadwell, in-laws Lottie and Leo Schnaidt, brother-in-law Bob Schnaidt, and niece Roberta. A Memorial will be held on January 23rd at 11:30 at Lima Family Mortuary at 466 N. Winchester Blvd Santa Clara. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to Kaiser Hospice, Veteran’s Administration, or simply do an act of kindness in his honor.
