Franklin Carrier was born in Miller, South Dakota. He attended the Minnesota School of Mines, where when WWII began he joined the Cadet Program. Franklin finished flight school as a Naval aviator. When WWII ended he returned to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where he met his wife Helynn Armstrong, earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics and began his family. During the Korean War Franklin was recalled to active service. Several years later when he left the military Franklin became a computer programmer in the developing aerospace industry which eventually brought him to San Jose. In 1975, with his wife Helynn, he turned a lifelong hobby into "Carriers Beekeeping Supplies", authored 3 books on beekeeping, and was fondly known to many area residents as "the bee man". Franklin is survived by his children Teresa Carrier Manfre, Helynn (Mimi) Carrier Kennedy, and Franklin (Randy) Carrier, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
