Freda was born February 7, 1927 in Lawrence, Mass. to Venera Fiamingo Mangano and Concetto Mangano. Following World War II, Freda married Raymond John DeFelice on June 8, 1947. She relocated to California with her husband and extended family in 1948. She was a resident of the City of Santa Clara for more than 70 years. On April 7, 2021 at 5:30 pm Freda departed after suffering complications associated with congestive heart failure.
A vibrant and active 94, Freda was an avid reader. She enjoyed writing and had the most beautiful penmanship. Freda stressed the importance of education as a key component to a successful future. She worked in the banking industry for many years, elevating herself to the position of Vice-President. Freda traveled extensively in her later life both abroad and throughout the United States visiting family and friends. She was an active member of the Santa Clara Senior Citizens Center, participating in water aerobics and numerous social events. Affectionately known as GiGi (Great Grandmother) to her immediate family, what Freda enjoyed most in life were family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and close friends.
Freda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond to whom she was married for 45 years. She is survived by her three children, Bob DeFelice, Rich DeFelice and Elaine Powell, their spouses Anna DeFelice and Leslie Toser. Six grandchildren: Glenn Powell and spouse Simone; Adriane Powell Suzman and spouse Tim; Angel DeFelice Rothrock and spouse Scott; Bobby DeFelice and fiancé AlyssaTopete; Seth Toser-Whitty and Patchen Toser-Whitty. Eight great grandchildren: Sophia, Liam and Vivienne Powell; Aria and Zayden Suzman; Raymond and Annie Rothrock; and Olivia DeFelice.
Due to current circumstances, a private church and grave site service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. In the future, a celebration of life gathering will be held for all family and friends to remember and reflect upon a life well lived by someone we all loved and respected.
