Frederic B. Tamayo passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025. He was born in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to †Bartolome and †Leandra Tamayo.
At the age of sixteen, he moved to Pā’ia, Maui, Hawaii, where his lifelong values of faith, family, and hard work first took root. He graduated from Maui High School and later served in the United States Army Reserve, proud to give back to the country that gave his family a home.
After his military reserve service, Fred settled in San Francisco, working first at JCPenney and later at Hewlett-Packard, where he was employed from 1972 until his retirement in 2000. His professionalism, reliability, and kindness earned the respect of his coworkers.
In Fred’s younger years, he bowled in local leagues and proudly brought home a few trophies along the way. He loved watching Bay Area sports, and took his sons to games at Candlestick Park. He was a big fan of the 49ers, Giants and Warriors.
In 1967, he married †Caridad Romin Mejia, his loving wife of almost fifty years. Together, Fred and Carrie built their family home in the northern part of Santa Clara. After Caridad’s passing in June 2016, he found companionship again with Adelaida Ullero, who remained by his side until his final day.
In the early 1980s, Fred and Carrie owned and operated King Crab restaurant in Santa Clara - a reflection of his work ethic and belief that providing for family was a labor of love.
Fred was a simple, no-nonsense man who showed care through actions more than words. Whether fixing something around the house, working under the hood of the family cars, or tending his garden, he lived by example: reliable, humble, and faithful.
A devout Catholic, Fred had a personal devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and found peace in prayer at Our Lady of Peace Church in Santa Clara where he was a longtime parishioner.
Frederic is survived by his wife Adelaida Tamayo; his sons Noel (Melissa), Paul (Marian), and Brian; and grandchildren Philip Paul, Bella Marie and Emiliana “Emma” Maria Augusta who brought him great pride and joy.
He is survived by his brothers Veronico “Tommy" (Teresa) and Remedios “Ray” (†Josefa); his sisters Teresita (Edward) and Mildred (Rodolfo); he was preceded in death by his brother †Mariano (†Natalie). He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends who became family.
The visitation will be held on Friday, November 14 from 1:00 - 9:00 PM with 6:00 PM recitation of the Holy Rosary and Vigil service at the Lima Family Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Boulevard in Santa Clara
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 15 at St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish, 1971 St. Lawrence Drive in Santa Clara.
Fred will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos, California.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” - 2 Timothy 4:7
