Helen Wittels, 96 of Santa Clara, CA peacefully passed away at home on February 28, 2017. She leaves her son Rick (Jean) and daughter Nancy; grandchildren Nick Moyer, Anne Moyer Reel (Bryan), Max and Chris Wittels; and great-grandchildren Sophie and Will Reel. In 2002, Helen endured the losses of her son Christopher and daughter Gail Moyer (Barry). Born in 1920 at her parents’ (Dick and Hazel Moore) home in Ferndale, MI, the same house where, in 1943, Helen wed Joe Wittels. Helen’s fondness for the movies began with double-feature Saturdays with her beloved grandparents, Della and David Davis, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She made many happy memories at Stephens College in Columbia, MO and then raising her kids in Minneapolis. After Joe’s death in 1975, she retired to Walnut Creek, CA where she made great friends and ate plenty of chocolate. More recently, she has enjoyed the kind care and entertainment provided by many big-hearted folks of Pacific Gardens assisted living community. In lieu of a formal memorial, her family hopes that you honor Helen’s memory by doing something nice for someone who could use a small gift and a good joke.
