Jacinto was born to Jose Pablo Duque Martinez and Dorotea Muniz Martinez on September 11, 1928 in Millersview, Concho County, Texas. His eleven siblings included Jose, Silverio, Jesus, Maria del Refugia (Cuca), Delfina, Monica, Martina, Maria Guadalupe (Lupe), Pascual, Valentin, and Juanita.
In the 1940’s, his family moved to Mountain View Ca. There Jacinto met and married Margie Castillo Garcia on April 1, 1950. To this union, four children were born: Elizabeth (Lisa) Frances Tahamtanzadeh (Ali); Rose Irma Harris (Willie); Richard (Rick) Anthony Martinez (Linda); and Gerald (Jerry) Robert Martinez. Jacinto’s wife, Margie, passed away on July 26, 1975.
In 1994, Jacinto married Maria (Lily) Eduwiges Gonzalez. During their marriage, they had a beautiful life together both in Redwood City California and Stockton California. They travelled to many places including Europe, Hawaii, and the family cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Yearly, they also spent many months in Maria’s home in Guadalajara, Mexico. As Jacinto’s health began to decline, he was well cared for and loved by his beloved ‘Lily’.
Jacinto worked for Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) in San Mateo, California for many years. He was one of their hardest workers often carrying up to 75 lbs. on his back daily. After an injury at work, he was forced to retire in 1990. In order to relieve the pain of many surgeries, he became an avid runner. He ran every day and participated in races including the Bay-to-Breakers in San Francisco, California. He was well into his 80’s when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
He accomplished much in his lifetime. A pivotal and awesome point in Jacinto’s life occurred about 50 years ago when he made the decision to change his life and join Alcoholic Anonymous (AA). He thanked God for leading him to AA and was thankful that AA led him to God. His growth was immeasurable, and he was eternally grateful that he could once again be a loving husband and father to his family. It is this love that kept us, “his family,” loving him until he returned to his Heavenly Father.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose Pablo Duque Martinez, Dorotea Muniz Martinez, and all his eleven siblings, and his first wife, Margie Garcia Martinez.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria; four children; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces/nephews; and loving family and friends.
