1950-2016
Bay Area Resident
After surviving a 10 month, rigorous battle with lung cancer, Jim was beating it. However, the victory was short lived, as he had a stroke and passed days later on October 1st, and now is in the arms of the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Kasper and their two daughters, Jamie and Sarah Kasper; their grandson Dylan Kasper (19 mo. old); his sister Betty Jo Ash; and his brothers George Kasper and Carl Kasper.
Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He made friends easily wherever he went, drawing them in with his many stories as He always had a story to tell. Jim and Janet just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii with the whole family, which will be treasured by all
Jim grew up in Santa Clara and was a graduate of what was then Buchser High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era and after boot camp at Fort Lewis (Washington), he was stationed overseas in Germany. He served honorably as a Hawk Missile Crewman. Later on, Jim worked as a warehouseman for JC Paper, faithfully for 27 years until he retired in November 2015.
Jim loved to cook. Whenever the occasion presented itself for family gatherings or holidays, he would cook up a feast! He was a handyman. He loved animals throughout his life; as a child he raised rabbits, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, and fish. As an adult, he carried on that love for animals by raising our many dogs over the years. He loved cars; he had a 1966 Mustang that he enjoyed abundantly! Jim loved the outdoors. He loved to camp and fish with his family. He created many memories with his family to hold close to his heart, they would travel in their camper and camp and fish anywhere there was a lake and trout!
Jim was a man with a big heart, from an era where hard work was appreciated and family, friendships and community meant everything. He touched lives in a way that was so simplistic, yet masterfully intentional; letting all those he loved know that they were not alone in whatever they were going through. While his passing has left a hole in the hearts of all who love him, his legacy will forever live on in the fingerprints he left when he touched our hearts.
