October 22, 1942 – January 21,2024
Jean Pollino Memmott —fondly known as Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Jeanie— passed after a brief battle with cancer on January 21, 2024, at the age of 81. She passed peacefully with her children by her side.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Angelo, Jimmy, and Tony. Jean is survived by her beloved sister Frances Pinheiro, and children Dianna (Matthew) and Jonathan. Jean was blessed with 11 loving grandchildren, Brianna, Blake, Kinser, Cody, Trevor, Mia, Annabell, Jaydin, Katie, Danie, and Cienna; and had such close relationships with all her nieces and nephews. Although, she often teased that her son-in-law, Matthew, was her favorite child.
Jean was born in Rochester, New York to Anthony and Antionette Pollino, and moved to California with her family when she was two years old. She fondly, and frequently, told the story that as a teenager she worked at the local cannery alongside her mother during the summer adding the cherry to the top of canned fruit salad.
She worked for the County of Santa Clara and proudly served the community for over 35 years in Social Services, finishing her career as an eligibility worker. When her children were in school Jean spent time volunteering at St. John Vianney School crafting items year-round to be sold at the Christmas boutique and making fresh flower arrangements for the church.
After retiring Jean devoted her time to caring for her grandchildren, spending time with her friends and family, and continued crafting and crocheting.
Jean spent countless hours crocheting beautiful baby blankets, afghans, dish towels, pot holders, hats, scarves, gloves, really anything she could find a pattern for, to donate. She belonged to many crochet groups on social media and would ship her work off to any natural disaster looking for donations. Over the past few years, the cause closest to her heart was the Migrant Farmworker Caravan.
Jean was best known for her cooking and entertaining. She enthusiastically welcomed family and friends to her home. She was incredible in the kitchen and loved preparing meals to celebrate holidays, birthdays, or any other events big and small.
She will most be remembered for her warm generosity and her fierce loyalty and love.
A funeral service for Jean will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00am at Lima family Santa Clara Mortuary, located at 466 N. Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA. Following the funeral service, a burial will be held at 12:30pm at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, located at 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara, CA 95050.
