Joanne Marie Chaves
January 11, 1943 – October 31, 2019
The world, as we know it, lost a beautiful person on October 31st, 2019.
Heaven has a new angel, a kind loving soul with impeccable style.
Joanne Marie Chaves, a lifelong San Jose resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home on October 31st, 2019 at the age of 76. She fought pancreatic cancer like a brave warrior for over two years. She was stronger than any of us that surrounded her with love and support.
Born January 11th, 1943 in San Jose, Joanne was the first child to the late Joseph and Sarah Alves. Joanne was a 1960 graduate of Samuel Ayer High School. Raised in San Jose on the family owned Alves Brothers Dairy, Joanne and her family were active members of the SFV Portuguese Hall in Mountain View.
Joanne had a 33 year long career with One Workplace, where she worked as a store manager and then as an Accounts Payable specialist with the company.
Joanne’s family will fondly remember the countless memories made in her favorite places: Disneyland, Maui and in her own backyard! On any given day, Joanne could be found shopping (QVC was her favorite channel), tending to her yard, or rooting on the 49ers and Warriors.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arnold, children Kelly (Kevin) and Mark (Veronica), grandsons Chase (Anna) and Mark Jr. (Kali), and her dog Annie. She is also survived by her family, DeDe (Joe), Linda (Bill), Joe (Lucky), Judy (Larry),Frank (Cindy), Alice and many nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends from near and far.
