Lewis Savio Landry Santos was born on May 4, 1978, in Pune, India, as the youngest son of Ronald Agnelo Santos and Lucy Julie (Borges) Santos. He attended St. Vincent High School, received a Bachelors of Commerce (B.Com) from Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Pune. He also went on to complete a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Master of Science in Marketing Analysis from DePaul University, Chicago, in 2010.
The context Lewis created for his life was Expanding Human Potential. His passion for learning was voracious; he was always reading several books simultaneously and watching videos to constantly educate himself about how to be, and do, better. He would do anything to bring workability to anyone he met, but especially his beloved family, friends, and coworkers. He went out of his way to contribute to others. He worked at the startups Billeo and Parlo, the latter of which was acquired by ServiceNow in 2018. He worked at ServiceNow until the end of his life and was a Senior Technical Program Manager. Lewis’ love for learning was echoed in his everyday work as he helped support complex and innovative programs which were focused on Machine Learning and Generative Artificial Intelligence. Lewis also took an interest in helping others reach success and played an active role in centralizing information, organizing complicated testing efforts, ensuring on time delivery of product releases, and developing measurements of success. Through his shared work on innovative technology he was part of a team who contributed to multiple United States patents.
A devout Catholic, Lewis was actively involved within the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose in which he was introduced to lifelong friends along with a strong community of faith. Upon attending the Pure Fire Young Adult Retreat hosted by the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose in 2015, Lewis became one of the core leaders in 2016. After attending his Cursillo Retreat on the "Power of Your Love" weekend in Spring 2016, Lewis served on the “Abba Father” weekend in Spring 2017. Lewis became active in the St. Martin of Tours Young Adult Group in San Jose and was lector at the Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale. These opportunities deepened his commitment to God and connected him powerfully in relationship with others.
On Easter Sunday 2017, Lewis met the love of his life, Julia Claire (“JC”), at a potluck hosted by their mutual friends. Within weeks, they were dating and in full collaboration with her family, Lewis proposed to Julia Claire at the Gulfport International Airport in Mississippi on July 3, 2017. Lewis and Julia Claire were married at the Mission Santa Clara Church on January 13, 2018. They shared a love of travel (trips to the Gulf Coast, Atlanta, Maui, Pune, Goa, Mumbai, Agra, LA, San Diego, Chicago, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas); music (especially Needtobreathe concerts and San Jose Broadway shows); and nature (particularly long coastal drives to Half Moon Bay, Asilomar, Sausalito, and many, many places in between).
Lewis had a heart of service and a nurturing temperament. He loved dogs and was proud to care for many canine companions through the years—including his family’s pets, Rennie, Fritz, Shatzi, and Mitzi. He adopted JC’s dog Annie when they met and cared for her through the end of her life. Lewis’ most cherished companion by far was Old Man Will, a 100+ pound full-blooded German Shepherd whom he and JC adopted when he was 9 years old. Lewis reveled in Will everyday and lovingly cared for this gentle giant even when Will lost full use of his legs.
Nowhere was Lewis’ nurturing, tender, passionate, and joyful temperament more alive, however, than when he and Julia Claire welcomed their precious son, Theo, into the world. He gave all of his heart and soul to the joy of being a parent and delighted in the miracle and wonder of this perfect baby who was born on August 10, 2021. Lewis prayerfully discerned the name “Theo” when he learned of its meaning, “God’s gift,” and “Josiah,” which signifies “God supports and heals.” Theo’s bright, joyful persona matches his Dada’s and their bond is one of laughter, unbridled affection, trust, and wonder.
Lewis had great dreams and plans for his family which unfortunately were abruptly shattered by his sudden death on the evening of September 28, 2023. Returning from a business trip in which JC and Theo were fortunately able to join him, Lewis was feeling exhausted and unwell and went to rest. Within an hour, sadly, when JC went to check on him she found him unresponsive but with a beautiful smile on his face. No amount of emergency medicine was able to revive him. He passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by a loving family and closest friends who are devastated by his loss.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Julia Claire Landry Santos; son, Theodore Josiah Landry Santos (2); parents, Lucy Julie Borges Santos, Robert “Bob” James Landry, and Sarah Lucy Schwan Landry; his brothers, Fr. Nicholas Santos, SJ, Bertrand Benedict Melanius Rodrigues, and Avery James Cummings; his sisters, Sr. Helen Patricia Santos, RJM, Monica Maria Santos Rodrigues, and Lucy Ellen Landry Cummings; nephew, Rohan Benedict Rodrigues; and niece, Katrina Lucy Rodrigues. Lewis was preceded in death by his father, Ronald “Ronnie” Agnelo Santos and more recently by uncles Fr. John Santos, SJ, Joe Santos, and his aunt, Marie Borges.
On behalf of their family, Julia Claire wishes to offer profound thanks to the many friends and family who have poured out such generous and continual support in the wake of Lewis’ shocking, untimely passing—especially the communities of their couples group, IN FOCUS, St. Martin of Tours, Landmark graduates and leaders, ServiceNow, and so many more.
Funeral arrangements are listed below. An additional celebration of life will be planned for later in the year at Half Moon Bay, California at the favorite sunset spot frequently visited by Lewis, Julia Claire and Theo.
