Louis Calvin Melchor

Henrietta Robinson and Melvin Melchor, Sr. He was raised by his bonus mother,

Lillie Melchor who adored her first son. Louis was the oldest of 12 siblings. Louis

spent some of his childhood in Clarksdale , MS. before moving to Los Angeles, CA in

1954. Thereafter, Louis spent his adolescence in Los Angeles where he graduated

from Manuel Arts High School in 1960.

After graduating from high school, Louis made a honorable decision to enlist in the

US Navy where he served from 1960 to 1962. After serving in the US Navy, Louis

met and married E. Lois Scott in 1962. Their marriage lasted 26 years and to this

union 3 daughters were born, Nikita Kennett, Lillie Mae and Latrece Calvalyn. In

1988, Louis married Sonja J. Steele.

Louis spent the majority of his career as a professional truck and bus driver. He was

known as the "Professional Driver". Louis retired from driving in 2003 where he put

his focus on what he loved to do; camping and traveling with his love, Sonja

Melchor.

Louis was a man who loved to laugh and valued education, and hard work. He was

very proud of all his children and grandchildren. He was affectionally given the

name Da'Yee by his first grandchild, Nikita. He would often joke about how lucky he

was to have such educated children and grandchildren.

Louis was proceeded in death by his daughter Lillie Mae Melchor, his parents

Henrietta Robinson and Melvin Melchor, Sr. and 7 siblings.

Louis leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife of 34 years, Sonja Melchor; two

daughters, Nikita K. Melchor and Dr. Latrece C. Smothers both of Elk Grove, CA; one

step son, Paul Huntington of Manteca, CA; two sons-in-love, Walter A. Torrence, Jr.

of Aiea, HI and Dr. David L. Smothers of Elk Grove, CA; Grandchildren, Nikita K.

Hughes (Joe) of Elk Grove, Walter A. Torrence, III (Yamiah) of Natomas, CA; Bryttini

L. Ennis of Elk Grove, CA; Amanda Leasure of Forestville, CA; Nicolas D., Matthew D.

and Andrew D. Smothers all of Elk Grove, CA; Great-Grandchildren Keyliana, Malaia

and Walter IV all of Natomas, CA; Peyton and Jordyn of Elk Grove, CA; Bryce of Elk

Grove, CA, Charlize and Landon of Forestville, CA and a host of nieces, nephews and

friends.Louis Calvin Melchor, age 82, of Milpitas, California passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

A graveside service for Louis will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Golden Gate National Cemetery, 1300 Sneath Ln, San Bruno, CA 94066.
