We deeply mourn the loss of Maria Cabral, affectionately known by her middle name, "Ligia," among family and friends. Born on the 23rd of April, 1929, Maria departed from us on the 5th of August, 2025. She immigrated from the Azores Islands of Portugal with her husband, Eduardo Cabral and their young son, Albert George, settling in California on March 20, 1960. Her bright spirit and incredible energy are memories that will continue to warm our hearts in her absence.
Maria Ligia will be remembered for her hardworking nature, generous heart, and spunky spirit Ligia. She had a knack for keeping her hands busy, whether it was knitting cozy blankets, crocheting beautiful scarves, or crafting other treasures that she loved to share with family and friends. Her work ethic was showcased through her work as a housekeeper, where she diligently served over 20 clients throughout many years while also working seasonally at the Gangi Brothers Cannery in Santa Clara, Ca.
Beyond her work, Maria found joy in community and tradition. She was a proud member of the S.E.S. Portuguese Hall in Santa Clara, always ready to lend a hand. A devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Clare Parish, she devoted herself to preparing and ironing the sacred linens used at Mass. When she wasn’t serving others, she could often be found enjoying long walks through her Santa Clara neighborhood or proudly tending to her garden of roses, flowers, couves (Portuguese kale) and fava beans.
Family was always at the center of Maria Ligia’s life. She showed her loved ones the importance of working hard, being kind, and cherishing each other. Those values and her warmth, will live on in everyone who knew her. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria Ligia's love for her family was unquestionable and reciprocated in kind. She leaves behind her son, along with her daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters, each of whom she loved dearly.
Her warm presence will be deeply missed, but the impact she made on our lives will live on. May Maria Ligia Cabral rest in peace, be reunited with the Lord, her husband and family who went before her.
The family of Maria Ligia is grateful and comforted by all the kind condolences, calls, thoughts, and prayers during this time of loss.
