Mark J. Colella lost his battle with Lymphoma on June 22, 2023 at the age of 75 surrounded by his children. His battle with Lymphoma in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Mark came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
He was born April 11, 1948 in San Jose, Ca to his parents Rose (Isaia) and Bernard Colella. He was a private and quiet person, but also very witty and fun! Known for his “Stupid Dad Jokes”, silent generosity, compassion, love of golf and Bay Area Sports teams - the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, San Jose Sharks, and the Golden State Warriors. Shotokan was his discipline of choice where is achieved a brown belt. He was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate.
Mark obtained an Associate of Arts degree from West Valley Community College focusing his studies in Art. He participated in at least two College art gallery showings as a student there. He was a die maker for over 45 years starting off at Container Corporation of America. Although the company changed names several times, Mark was a loyal employee utilizing his artistic abilities in his employment. During his retirement years, Mark worked at the Moffett Field Golf Club as a golf marshal and was able to enjoy golfing there and other places with his friends.
Mark was married twice, had 2 beautiful children and remained close with both Vera Morgan and Christine Champion throughout his life. Mark/Marky/Dad/Papa/Grandpa Mark is survived by his children (Lisa and Samuel Wood, Anthony and Julianne Colella), grandchildren (Aubrey and Aaron Cain, Jessica and Logan Smith, and Leonardo and Luciano Colella) and his great grandchildren (Sydney, Lilian, and Charlotte Smith). Additionally, his sister (Cathy Bachmann), and brothers (Curt, David, and Paul Colella) as well as many nephews and nieces. Mark was a quiet man but had an amazing sense of humor and a kind heart. He is deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7 from 9:00 - 10:30 am at Lima Family Mortuary (466 N. Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara). Burial Committal Services at 10:45 am at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery directly after the service. Luncheon will follow after in the banquet hall at Lima Family Mortuary.
