Martha R. Vargas
March 10, 1923 – August 10, 2019
Martha “Maca” Rodriguez Vargas passed away on August 10, 2019 in Santa Clara, California, surrounded by her sons Tony and Paul Vargas and their families. Martha was born on March 10, 1923 to Gregorio and Timotea Rodriguez in Cuautla, Jalisco, where she spent her childhood and young adult life surrounded by her 12 brothers and sisters.
In her thirties, she left her beloved Mexico to join her brothers and sisters in San Francisco, where she met and married Gilbert M. Vargas.
She left San Francisco in the 60’s and relocated to Santa Clara where she spent her last 54 years and cemented her roots. She had a long career as a seamstress and working in the canneries. She loved attending mass on Sundays at St. Clare’s Church but she was especially proud the day she became a U.S. citizen at 70 years young.
She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother, mother-in-law, friend and most of all grandmother. She is survived by her son Tony Vargas and wife Candice, their daughters Rachel, Cadena and Monica Levario, and their five children; and by her youngest son Paul Vargas and wife Amy, their sons Paul and Patrick and daughter Alexandria.
As Martha would always say “Que dios te acompañe”
