Mary was born in Superior, Wisconsin on March 12, 1935. Her parents were James McKone and Margaret (Kaggerud) McKone. Mary passed away on August 28, 2016 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. Mary moved to Seattle, Washington in her teens. She graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1953, and from Seattle University in 1957, where she earned a BA in Education. She met her husband Tim at Seattle University, where they were avid hikers as members of the Hiyu Coulee Hiking Club. Mary and Tim were married in August of 1958. They spent their first two years together in Palo Alto, California, where Tim earned his Master’s degree in engineering, and Mary taught at Musick Elementary School in Newark. In 1960 they moved back to Seattle where Tim took a position teaching engineering at Seattle University. In 1961 Mary and Tim welcomed Peggy into the family. After four years at Seattle University the family packed up and headed for Boulder, Colorado, where Tim studied for the PhD degree. Mary substituted in various grade schools near Boulder, and Peggy made snow angels. With the PhD in hand, Tim and the family headed for Santa Clara, California, where Tim taught Electrical Engineering at Santa Clara University for 50 years. Bruce joined the family in 1967, and Shannon arrived in 1969. After her children had grown a bit, Mary returned to school, earning an MA in English at Santa Clara University in 1975. She then taught for two years at Notre Dame High School in downtown San Jose. After a brief period of temp-working around the Valley, Mary joined the American Electronics Association (AEA), where she served for 15 years as a program organizer, developing educational programs for AEA at both Santa Clara University and at Stanford University. After retiring from AEA, Mary spent a number of years volunteering at O’Connor hospital. Fortunately, that left her plenty of time to walk her beloved puppies around the neighborhood, where she came to be a familiar sight. Mary was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011. In spite of the disease, Mary continued to be a great source of joy and love for her family and friends. The occasional laugh, or short retort never failed to lift the spirits of all those around her. To the very end it was a joy to be with her.Mary Healy is survived by her loving husband Tim, her daughters Peggy Toomay and Shannon Healy, her son Bruce Healy and 2 brothers, Mike McKone and Pat McKone.
