Michael Raymond O’Brien, 55, a resident of Milpitas, California, passed away unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Gatos after a short battle with cancer in the early morning hours of May 18, 2018.
Michael was born November 26, 1962 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Norman W. O’Brien and Ruth (Leavitt) O’Brien.
Michael was a 1980 graduate of Fabius-Pompey High School in Pompey, NY and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Business at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY in 1984. Soon after, Michael began what turned into a 33 year career at Texas Instruments and successfully worked his way up the ladder in various semiconductor sales roles including sales management. Texas Instruments was his only employer post college where he worked in various locations including; Dallas, Texas; Philadelphia, PA; Orlando, Florida; and finally in Sunnyvale, CA.
Michael had a passion for the game of golf and was very good at it. He enjoyed many hours on the beautiful greens where he was known to occasionally throw a shoe or a club when things weren’t going his way. He was a loyal fan of Syracuse University basketball and would rarely miss a game on TV. The same went for the Dallas Cowboys. He ultimately became a big fan of the San Francisco Giants as well as the Golden State Warriors. His all-time favorite musician was The Boss, Bruce Springsteen.
Michael’s primary priority was to provide for his family and he worked very hard doing just that. He was a dedicated, adoring and proud father and loved spending time with his children. He is survived by his children, Patrick O’Brien and Megan O’Brien of Milpitas, CA, and their mother and his teammate for life, Janet O’Brien, also of Milpitas; his sisters, Patricia Martuscello and her husband Peter of Baldwinsville, NY, and Terry Morgan and her husband Mike of Spring City, PA, and niece Rachel Morgan of Spring City, PA. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Ruth O’Brien.
Visiting hours will be held at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary in Santa Clara Friday, May 25th beginning at 5:00PM. Church services will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Milpitas, May 26th beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at The Embassy Suites in Milpitas.
