It is with our deepest sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Monte “Rex” Macer Jr. of Santa Clara, California. On Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the age of 89, he passed away peacefully in his home.
Rex, as most knew him, was born on May 20, 1936, to Monte and May Macer in Oakland, California. He graduated from Lincoln High School before joining the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for four years. Upon returning home, he attended and graduated from San José State University. In 1958, Rex began his long and distinguished career with the Santa Clara Police Department. He retired 35 years later as a Sergeant Detective and was recognized as the longest-serving officer on the force.
Rex’s early years took him from Oakland to Pleasanton and later to Santa Clara County, where he spent the majority of his life. In 1958, he met Celia, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than 65 years.
Rex enjoyed many things in life — time with family and friends, celebrating his Scottish heritage, and attending the Highland Games. He loved golfing, horse racing, Keno, and Pai Gow, and for more than 40 years he looked forward to playing poker with the other “Boyz-in-Blue.”
Rex is survived by his wife, Celia; his children Colleen, Monte (Michelle), Monica, Alicia, and Daleana; and his sister Shelda. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tyler, Stephanie, Crystal (Alex), Forest, Marcos, Rex IV, and Ryan, as well as nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Andria.
Services will take place at Lima Family 466 N. Winchester Boulevard, Santa Clara on Sunday, December 14th at 12pm. The family will welcome family and friends directly after the service.
