In the fading light of evening, Nancy is walking down a well-traveled sidewalk, heading towards a simple two story house on the corner. The house is neat and well kept, sitting solid since 1900. The lights are on inside and its warm and comfortable, full of people bustling about. All the parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins are preparing for a party. They have been waiting for Nancy to get there as she will be the last to arrive. Once she is there, the party will be in full swing, and will last for eternity.
They will eat homemade pasta, cookies and cake. Card games will be played and skits will be performed, with the performers getting paid 10 cents each, paid by the old uncles. Music will be played and cigars will be smoked on the porch.
Nancy had a good life. Growing up on the east coast surrounded by family, then moving to California
to be with her brother, sister-in-law and nieces. Her mother was widowed at an early age, so Nancy grew up quickly helping with the cooking and housework. She learned the value of a dollar and made every penny count the rest of her life. In 1967, she met and married her husband, Paul. They spent their days cooking Italian food together and enjoying the cruise life.
Nancy spent her remaining years at Oakmont Assisted Living in San Jose. There her love of numbers paid off as she consistently won at Bingo.
As she leaves this world behind, her nieces and nephew, many great and great-great nieces and nephews and all the caring friends she made at Oakmont will say goodbye, and she will be welcomed home once again.
