St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face
Natividad was born on June 24, 1925, in Quetegan, Pangasinan, to Primitiva
Alcantara and Francisco Escaño. She was the only child of both widowed parents
and had 7 siblings - Gaudencio, Sergio, & Jose; Dominga, Vicente, Pedro, &
Conching.
She graduated from University of Santo Tomas with a degree of Bachelor of
Science in Education. She taught for a year in Mangatarem High School before
working at Gerona Institute as an Oriental History, World History, and Economics
teacher until she retired.
In 1952, Natividad married the love of her life, Pedro H. Serrano. They had three
children – Myrna Grace (Narciso Jr.), Josephine (Mario), and Kline Carlos (Cynthia).
She also had 8 grandchildren: Pamela (Lester), Narciso III (Ces-Marie), Kristine,
Mark, Peter, John, Krista, and Kristel as well as 4 great grandchildren: Danielle,
Lester Jr., Liam, and Grayson.
She migrated to the U.S.A in 1987, where she lived with Myrna and her family until
2002. In 2003, she eventually lived with Josephine and her family until the day she
passed away; Kline Carlos and his family took care of her 24/7 for 3 and a half
years.
In addition, she was admitted at the OCDS Secular Third Order of Discalced
Carmelites on October 22, 2007, had Temporary Promise, May 15, 2010, and had
Definitive Promise on May 19, 2013.
Natividad truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: gardening (most
especially growing orchids), singing and dancing to her favorite tune, travelling,
and spending time with her family and friends. She was well-known for having the
sweetest smile and being very soft-spoken, caring, loving, generous, and patient.
