

Pauline Bates Green, long time Santa Clara resident crossed over to heaven on October 12, 2017 to join her beloved husband Richard Thomas Green (deceased April 28, 2015), son, Daniel Robert Green (deceased June 20, 2004)and son, Matthew Raymond Green (August 18, 2016). She also joined with her parents Hazel and Henry. Pauline was born June 17,1928 in Healdsburg, CA. She shared stories of growing up within the beautiful apple orchards, grape vineyard, and other fruit trees. She loved the Northern CA countryside. Pauline graduated from Santa Rosa Jr. College and then transferred to SJSU where she studied and earned her Elementary Teaching Degree, BA and General Teaching Credential. Pauline also met her love, Richard Thomas Green during their class art trip sketching landscapes within San Francisco Bay. She taught 3rd grade in Baron Park, Palo Alto as well as Trace Elementary, San Jose. After she and Richard started their family, she became an active volunteer at their schools: the former St. Joseph Elementary as well as Mothers Guild President at Mitty High School, San Jose, CA 1971 and 72. Pauline also enjoyed working as a volunteer at O’Connor Hospital, San Jose, CA. She enjoyed making life long friends within her neighborhood as well as St. Martin of Tours Parish in San Jose. Right before son, Matthew had a life changing accident, Pauline was teaching part time at Westwood Elementary in the Santa Clara Unified School District and was about to accept a 3rd grade teaching assignment before their son’s accident in 1977.Pauline and her husband Richard were devoted to their children and helped start the Parents Helping Parents at Skills Plus in Santa Clara. Richard and Pauline were both caregivers for their son Matthew in their Santa Clara home from 1979-2015. Richard and Pauline supported other parents with their children suffering life long head injuries. As the many years went by, Pauline and Richard would have a handful of respite travel trips. Her husband felt Pauline should have more little trips so Pauline fell in love with cruising the Mediterranean/Europe, Caribbean, and especially her favorite Hawaiian Islands every now and then. She was an avid reader, loved a touch of the color yellow, enjoyed tending to her flowers in the garden at her Santa Clara home and was an amazing cook, she created delicious home made pasta sauce and soups. She was also an Art Minor in college and the arts continued to lift her spirits. Pauline had a beautiful singing voice and music filled her family home. As a resident of Our Lady of Fatima in Saratoga, CA for the past two years, Pauline enjoyed singing during musical events as well as sketching the roses and gorgeous Magnolia tree outside her assisted living residence. Pauline is survived by her sister Henrietta Hermle, Woodland, CA, daughter Mary J. Green-Blevins, Campbell, CA, son-in-law, Howard Blevins Jr., Campbell, grandchildren Juliane and Thomas Blevins, Campbell. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 20 at St. Martin of Tours Parish, San Jose at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers please give to the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, Humane Society, or organization of choice to help others as Pauline believed.
