After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, Sally passed away on March 8, 2016. Sally fought this disease with great courage and continuing love for those close to her. Her strength and affection will be greatly missed.
Sally was born in Michigan to David and Hester Harrington. The Harrington family relocated to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, where Sally attended grade school and then Coeur d’Alene High School. Sally went on to obtain her RN nursing degree from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington. After working a year at the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Spokane, Sally ventured to the Bay Area where she met her future husband, John Humbert. The couple married in 1965 and settled in Santa Clara. Sally is survived by her husband John, daughter Susan Kramer (Louis), sister Dorothy Green, cousin Rosemary Stevens, brother in-law Henry Humbert, nephews J Zucchetto and David Humbert, and nieces Leisa Kosanke and Michele Kinman. Sally is pre-deceased by her parents and brother, Mark Harrington.
Sally was the essence of nurturing and love for others and was always the first to step up to help family, friends, and strangers in need. She was greatly admired and loved by all who knew her. Sally was the consummate nurse, working at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View for over 30 years, until her health began to fade. Her most treasured years were those working in maternity and the nursery, where caring for new lives gave her the most joy and reward. Sally was a devoted wife and mother and source of energy and fun in her family. Sally was most proud of the close relationship shared with her daughter and the many things they enjoyed doing together – whether it was the Avon 60 mile breast cancer walk or annual trips to Disneyland.
The Humbert family extends their deepest appreciation and a special thank you to the dedicated staff of Mountain View Healthcare Center for the loving care Sally received in her final years.
