

Sofia was born to Jose and Luz Miranda on November 28, 1922. She served in the US Army for a short time during World War II, where she met her husband, Leandro under an apple tree at Camp Miles Standish. They were married in 1945 at Fort Sills. Sofia grew up in Texas, but was a resident of Fremont for more than 57 years. She was a vibrant vivacious woman who loved people and providing for them. She gave the best parties and posadas and loved to dance, sing and laugh. Her family will remember her love of hot salsa, her buttermilk biscuits, handmade tortillas and tamales. She was active in her parish community and for many years was a member of the Guadalupano Society. She loved singing with the Spanish choir and was a Eucharistic minister. She also belonged to other ministries at various times, including Hospitality and serving as a catechist.
Sofia was preceded in death by her husband, Leandro Leal Torres, two brothers, twin Jose Jesus Miranda Jr. and Isadore Miranda and four sisters, Virginia Lona, Marina Martinez, Matilda Macias and Rose Marie Grumbles. She is survived by her children, Leo Torres, Zulema/Sue Perry (Jay), Lucy Schilling (Tom), Susana Torres and Lisa Eacret (Randy), six grandchildren, Michael Delgado (Cristina), Elizabeth Delgado, Christina Fernandez (Eddy), Joseph Perry (Miyuki), Sara Smith (Sean) and Alex Eacret (Courtney), nine great-grandchildren, Danny Sandoval, Raquel Delgado, Rebeca Delgado, Sophia Delgado, Genesis Delgado, Ethan Fernandez, Sofia Fernandez, Riley Smith and Enzo Eacret, four brothers, Alfred Miranda, Frank Miranda, Joe Miranda and John Miranda and three sisters, Frances Rodriguez, Marie Joslen and Carmen Miranda.
Sofia will be missed greatly by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont CA. The family requests that (if possible), you wear blue to the services. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
Flowers should be noted for delivery to Our Lady of Guadalupe church after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
